Schooling
If your child was born between April 2023 and March 2024, the 2027-28 session is likely your nursery year. Most of the real work happens months before classes begin in April, so the time to start is now, not in February.
For first-time parents, the form is the easy part. The harder part is knowing which age rules apply, which documents to keep ready, and how to compare good CBSE schools in Gurgaon without getting lost in brochures. This guide covers each step in order.
Is Your Child Age-Eligible for Nursery in 2027-28?
Age is the first filter, and it has become stricter in Haryana. From the 2026-27 academic year, Haryana is strictly enforcing the six-year age requirement for Class 1 and has removed the six-month relaxation it used to allow. Officials have said that children below the cut-off will be placed in Balvatika or pre-primary classes and moved to Class 1 once they meet the eligibility criteria. The NEP 2020 structure places three years of pre-primary before Class 1. Working backwards from Class 1 at age six, nursery entry falls at roughly age three.
A quick age check for the 2027-28 session
- Nursery / Pre-School 1: 3+ years as of 31 March 2027
- LKG / Pre-School 2: 4+ years
- UKG / Pre-School 3: 5+ years
- Class 1: 6+ years (your nursery child reaches this in 2030-31)
Class names and cut-off dates vary from school to school, so confirm with each one. Some schools use Montessori names instead. Alpine Convent School, for example, lists Montessori-1 eligibility as 3+ years as on 31st March of the academic year in which admission is required, and notes that in exceptional circumstances the age limit may be relaxed by a few months depending on the child's development.
When Do Nursery Admissions Open in Gurgaon?
Gurgaon does not follow a single common admission calendar for private schools. Each school sets its own dates.
Delhi works differently. For the 2026-27 session, Delhi's private school entry-level forms became available from December 4, with the first list scheduled for January 23. Families who are weighing schools on both sides of the border should track the two systems separately. In our experience of following Gurgaon admissions, many private schools begin registrations in the autumn and winter before the new session. Others admit throughout the year. Alpine Convent School, for instance, states that its session runs from April to March, that seats are granted on a first-come, first-served basis, and that students are admitted throughout the year depending on vacancies.
Applying under the EWS/DG quota
Haryana reserves 25 per cent of entry-level seats in private schools for students from Economically Weaker Sections and Disadvantaged Groups, and the annual family income must be below Rs 1.80 lakh. In the previous academic session, 14,127 applications were received under the RTE Act, and 11,803 applicants were allotted private schools.
This quota runs through a separate state process. For 2026-27, applications opened on April 9 and covered 60,479 seats across 7,505 private schools. Expect a similar window for 2027-28, but watch for the official notice.
Documents to Keep Ready
Collect these early so you can apply the same week a school opens registrations:
- Child's birth certificate (copy, plus the original for verification)
- Aadhaar cards of the parent and the child
- Recent passport-size photographs
- Address proof (check which formats each school accepts)
- Any medical or special-needs information
That last point matters. Alpine's admissions page asks parents to make a good-faith disclosure of any suspected or identified special needs at the time of applying. Sharing this upfront helps the school plan support for your child.
What the Admission Process Usually Looks Like
Most schools follow a similar sequence:
- Shortlist three to five schools within a realistic commute.
- Visit the campus and meet the pre-primary team.
- Register online or at the front desk.
- Attend an interaction with your child. At nursery level, this is usually a relaxed conversation, not a test.
- Accept the offer and pay the seat-blocking or admission fee.
- Submit documents within the deadline the school gives you.
Deadlines after an offer can be short. Alpine, for example, asks for documents within 7 days of the admission offer.
How to Compare CBSE Schools in Gurgaon Before You Apply
No official ranking names the best CBSE school in Gurgaon for every family. The right fit depends on your child, your route to work, and your budget. Use this checklist instead.
- Verify affiliation. Search the school on CBSE's SARAS portal. The affiliation number should match what the school claims.
- Test the commute. Do a trial drive at school timings. A long daily ride wears out a three-year-old quickly.
- Look at the early-years approach. Ask how much of the day is play, stories, and outdoor time versus worksheets.
- Ask about safety. Pick-up rules, staff verification, CCTV, and medical support are fair questions.
- Get the full fee picture. Request a written annual breakdown that includes transport and activity charges.
- Think long term. A school that runs up to Class 12 saves you a second admission hunt later.
Questions worth asking on a campus visit
- How many children are in each nursery section, and how many adults?
- How do you settle children in during the first few weeks?
- How do teachers share progress with parents?
Common Mistakes First-Time Parents Make
- Waiting for one "official" date. Each school runs its own timeline.
- Getting the age maths wrong. Always calculate against the school's own cut-off date.
- Choosing on reputation alone. A well-known name can still be a poor match for your commute or your child's temperament.
- Missing the fee deadline after an offer, and losing the seat.
Planning Your Next Step
Start with your child's birth date, a short list of schools near home, and a folder of documents. Then visit in person. A single morning on campus usually tells you more than any website.

Frequently asked questions
Parents generally need the child's birth certificate, Aadhaar cards, recent photographs, address proof, and any required medical or special-needs information. Schools may request additional documents during verification, so check the admission checklist before submitting the application.
Parents should start researching schools and admission requirements several months before the April 2027 session. Many Gurgaon schools begin registrations during autumn or winter, while others admit children throughout the year when vacancies are available. Check each school's official admission schedule.
Compare CBSE affiliation, distance from home, early-years teaching methods, class size, safety procedures, teacher support, fees, transport, and future classes. Visiting shortlisted schools can help parents understand the environment and decide which school best fits their child's needs.
Nursery admission does not usually require a formal written entrance test. Schools may instead conduct an interaction with the child and parents to understand readiness, communication, behaviour, and individual needs. The exact admission process varies, so confirm directly with each school.
For the 2027-28 session, nursery generally corresponds to children who are three years or older by the school's specified cut-off date. Many schools use 31 March 2027, but parents should verify the exact age requirement before applying.
